Rock legends Bad Company reunite for one off show!

Legends Bad Company reunited to play a one off gig for lucky competitions winners and fans at the Garage in Glasgow city centre in conjunction with Rock Radio.

Relentless were there to witness all the action at their first appearance in Scotland for over 25 years. Support from local acts Wired Desire and Magnus Blaize set the tone for the night as they each played their way through a blistering 30 minute set before the legendary act took over. Over an hour of classic Bad Company songs left the crowd chanting for more as the band returned for an encore before leaving the stage and heading to the after show party which lasted until the early hours of Friday morning. The night had Relentless written all over it.

Wired Desire kicked off the proceedings...

A word from Wingy on the UK Vert Series...

Well what a start to the Vert series this weekend down at Mount Hawke skatepark Cornwall. It was kind of what we expected and then some. We all knew this was going to be the year that the new young blood came of age but we didn't quite expect such speed and fierce determination Within minutes of the skating starting on the Sunday anybody over the age of 15 felt like a complete beginner. As we all looked at each other with absolute confusion about what to do, the young guns opened fire!!
untitled2.bmp

Kick flip this, 540 that, heel flips the height of most normal airs, we all knew the book was passed on and we had to fight hard to stay with them. Just one skater aged over 15 made it to the final (Sean Goff) everyone else in the final was still at School! That is the first time I have witnessed anything like that in nearly 20 years of Skateboarding.
Every one of those guys deserved their place in that final, no kiddy points for having ago, the real deal.

untitled4.bmp

As we got to the final Sam Beckett was firing hard with lots of high consistent runs with flips all over the place, this took him to 1st place without any doubt. The 2nd place finisher was Alex Halford from Nottingham who played out with long runs and a Massive backside 540, you would have thought he had been doing this stuff for years.

Jacob Anderson took the 3rd spot, only 13 years old but he’s still progressed well in the last 2 years with more flip tricks and some varials and even something from back in the day - a Saran wrap blast from the past trick - showing that these kids can learn old and new style tricks.

untitled.bmp

The rest of them all deserve a mention as this was one tuff final with even a International rider Chris O'Reilly from Georgia USA, another ripper Paul Luc Ronchetti who struggled along with a Broken Collar bone. But a true crowd favorite was Jim Langham from Brum who with his own individual style of skating had every body on edge every time he dropped in. Well done all you guys on that the first of many battle this summer.

Mount Hawke was a blast and we owe it to Trawler and all the sponsors (Relentless, Vans and Shiner) for making this happen, hope to see you all for Round 2 at Blackpool in May

DONALD SEALS DEBUT PODIUM AS LAVERTY SHINES

Suzuki.bmp

Relentless Suzuki by TAS Racing made a positive start to their 2008 British championship campaign yesterday at Thruxton, with a debut British Superstock podium for Aussie Cameron Donald in third place; a fifth placed British Superbike debut for the Relentless Suzuki GSX–R1000 in the hands of Michael Laverty, and last but not least, a hard-fought fifth place for Ian Lowry in the Supersport class.

Normally used to running only two riders in one class within the series, it was a busy day for the Relentless Suzuki team competing in four races at Thruxton. All eyes were on the team’s BSB debut and Michael Laverty did them proud after having to deal with tyre problems in race one. Cameron Donald has continued to impress everyone since joining the team and his podium will only add to his ever increasing profile in Relentless Suzuki colours. Ian Lowry ended a tough opening weekend with a positive result and the Moira man will have more to offer in the coming rounds.

Michael Laverty [BSB]
“I’m reasonably happy with today’s results; at least we have shown potential. In the first race the tyre spun two-thirds of the way round on the rim knocking the tyre out of balance and it was hard just to hold on. In race two I had a bit of a problem on the side of the tyre through the really fast curves, but the Relentless Suzuki was up to the job and only for that I could have possibly held on to the Hondas. Top five in the first meeting of the year is positive, and it was also satisfying to be the first Suzuki home in the second race.”

Cameron Donald [Superstock]
“That was a tough little weekend but I’m absolutely pumped with the result. That must be the happiest I’ve ever been with third place! I was confident all weekend that we could go quicker and although I qualified ninth, when the boys told me that Michael won last year from 12th on the grid that gave me even more confidence. That was my first race at a fast circuit on the superstock Suzuki and I just can’t wait now to race it at the North West 200. I’m pumped for all the guys in the team and I’m just rapt with this new bike!”

Ian Lowry
“I’ve had easier weekends in British Supersport, but along with the support of the whole Relentless Suzuki team, we worked hard all weekend and salvaged what was a respectable fifth place. It’s not where I want to be but it’s points on the board and Oulton, which is up next, is one of my favourite circuits.”

Save Harrow Skate Park Day

IMG_0288.jpg

We volunteered to throw a bbq for the Save Harrow Skate Park Day on Saturday 19th April, as organised by Nick at Death, thinking we'd get a turn out of around 200 people as solid rain was predicted. How wrong could we get?? Over 400 of you rolled up to show your support to the park, a site that is hugely valued but unfortunately victim to property developers who will be using the land to build houses. To quote the UKSA "Skateboarding is being robbed of an irreplaceablepiece of its history, identity and culture".
It was a hectic day behind the barbie but left me with a warm fuzzy feeling, it was good to be involved and the skaters went off. To everyone involved well done for an amazing day. To find out more about petitioning the knock down go to www.ukskate.org.uk

Relentless Mark Webb

Webbie recently returned from the Chinese X Games with 1st Place under his belt despite still recovering from a broken back. He assured me he has been taking it easy and won the comp with 'just a 360 double tail whip' which still seems pretty gnarly to the rest of us, but that's Mark I guess.

Relentless Skate Weekender

We're hitting 3 skate parks this weekend in support of War of the Thistles at Transgression and Unit23 and the Save Harrow Skate Park Jam at well, Harrow obviously. Ali Hastings is running the show in the bonnie north with Nick from Death representing daarn saaarf. Pezzle and myself will actually be cooking up some snacks ourselves at Harrow, rain or no rain! Relentless Tow Team Update

Last month saw Relentless Tow Team Riders Dan 'Moel' Joel and Ben Skinner as entries for the coveted Billabong XXL big wave contest. The wave Dan was entered in for the contest featured as a poster in this month's issue of Carve Magazine (below) still in stores now! The standard of UK big wave surfing has picked up an incredible pace and so with so much opportunity and local spots to explore, the formation of the Relentless Tow Team just made absolute sense.
Moley.bmp

Relentless are set on helping push the standards of UK surfing and offering support in this dangerous and admirable sport. Ben Grenata is currently the third counterpart for our growing team of Tow surfers and over the next few months we'll be delivering exclusive footage and photography from their trips chasing the World's most challenging conditions. To keep up-to-date go to www.relentlessenergy.com and sign up to The Relentless Order.

Dan's quote from the above session at Aileens... "I'm really grateful to my tow-partner Ben Skinner. It was the first time we'd towed together and he was excellent. When waves reach this magnitude things can go really wrong fast. it is so important to have a highly skilled tow-partner to put you in the right spot on the wave and come and retrive you if you take a hit"

BPSA First Leg of the Tour Completed

Mark Harris (Newquay) has clinched the first title of the UK Pro Surf Tour with a masterclass of inspired surfing in the testing conditions of Croyde Bay. With a brilliant piece of showmanship, Mark snatched the title in a gripping battle full of drama and technical brilliance.

Entries were bulging in each of the six divisions of The Saltrock Open this year, and large numbers of spectators lined the contest arena to see things get underway bright and early on a sunny Saturday morning in some decent 3 to 4 foot swell.

Winds were still gusting strongly, having dropped considerably overnight, and competitors in the first rounds were tested thoroughly by the challenging conditions.

Last years Saltrock Open winner Sam Lamiroy (Newcastle) advanced confidently through the heats until the semi final where he lost out in tricky conditions. Alan Stokes (Newquay) surfed well all weekend but was judged to have interfered with Johnny Fryer’s wave in the next semi which effectively ended his challenge for the title, but Mark Egor Harris surfed well and advanced alongside first place Fryer. There they joined Matt Capel and Joss Ash from Bude who pulled an outstanding air reverse to secure his place in the final.

The Relentless Money Move for the best Aerial of the event went to Reubyn Ash (Bude) for an air reverse in his Pro Junior semi final heat. Reubyn commented “it is great to get this extra award which could also have gone to my brother Joss for his aerial in the Open semi final”.

Vote for Gallows to be Metal Hammer's BEST LIVE BAND at this year's Golden Gods

Gallows are up for a Golden God - here's what Lags had to say:

"We've been nominated for best live band at this years Metal Hammer Awards. This is one award we feel we deserve and we're thankful they've recognised us in this category. If you get the chance to vote for us that would be amazing.

To cast your vote go to www.metalhammer.co.uk/gods

Lags.jpg

We're also looking forward to playing both the Underage Fest in London and Boardmasters in Newquay. Fingers crossed the weather on the day will be sunny and we can all have a good time!

Before all that tho we're going to be in the studio writing and recording our next album, there's not much we can say about it at this stage but we're already excited with the ideas we've been throwing around in our practice space. Its been 3 years since we've really concentrated on writing some songs (Orchestra Of Wolves was originally written in 2005!) so there might be a difference in style, yet again there might not be, we'll just have to wait and see..."

Brands Hatch Snowed Under!

There was bitter disappointment for everyone in the Relentless Suzuki team when yesterday’s opening round of the British Superbike Championship was abandoned due to heavy snow falling on the Kent circuit. Not the sort of weather any of us expected for April in the south of England, especially when the sun was shining back home in Ireland!

IMG_3138.JPG
(the Relentless Rider Lounge - pre-snow!)

The opening round has now been rescheduled for the weekend of May 9/10/11. This is not ideal for many of the top teams in the paddock with the International North West 200 kicking off only two days later on May 13.

Up until the snow on Sunday morning, the Relentless Suzuki trio of Michael Laverty, Ian Lowry and Cameron Donald had been building themselves into strong positions in their respective championships. Laverty, who was returning to the superbike class on the GSX–R1000 K8 Relentless Suzuki posted a more than respectable 10th place on the grid for Sunday’s race.

BSB_Brands_Apr_710.jpg

Ian Lowry was taking a bit of time to build his confidence during the two days of free practice and qualifying but he did use the time wisely, setting up his all-new GSX–R600 Suzuki. Ian eventually finished 8th in qualifying.

New signing, Aussie Cameron Donald was making his British Superstock and Brands Hatch debut, but he put on a fine show also ending the qualifying in 8th place. This was Cameron’s first ever ride on the 2008 Relentless Suzuki superstock machine, showing many people why he must be respected on the circuit scene as well as the roads in 2008.

Philip Neill – Team Principal
“Obviously we are bitterly disappointed with the day being abandoned after such a promising start to the weekend, but I am also philosophical after gaining more track time with all our new Relentless Suzuki machinery. The atmosphere within the team has been great all weekend and we’ve brought everyone home in one piece. Sunday’s announcement didn’t suit anyone in the paddock but we will take positives from what we’ve learnt and move on now to Thruxton for round two.”
